Covid-19 Booster Dose Can Do More Harm than Good Amid Current Spike, Says AIIMS Doctor; Some Experts Disagree

ANI    17 April 2023

Although many specialists are encouraging individuals to take maximal precautions and also booster doses in light of the recent increase in COVID-19 cases, AIIMS doctor Dr. Sanjay Rai believes that at this time, a booster dose of the vaccine can cause more harm than good.In the previous 24 hours, 10,753 new cases have been reported. At the same time, the number of cases in the national capital has surpassed 1,500. The infection rate has also increased to 33%.

Dr. Sanjay, a Professor of Community Medicine, stated that COVID cases will continue to rise and fall as a result of RNA virus mutations. However, the most significant question is whether the severity, hospitalization, or fatality rate is growing.

He explained that in the early stages of COVID when people were not infected in large numbers, there was no herd immunity, so they needed more vaccines. However, practically everyone in the country has been infected, and natural immunity has developed in them.

He further added that many studies have shown that once an individual has been infected with a coronavirus once, they develop natural immunity. He added that in the last few months, they have seen that the infection of Corona has increased rapidly in countries like China, Japan, and South Korea.

He noted that all these countries have been highly vaccinated; Japan has gotten four doses of the vaccine, yet the corona infection was once again spreading very fast there. He explained that the reason that COVID-19 spread swiftly in these countries even after vaccination was that they retained zero COVID-19; people did not have a natural infection, and individuals became infected even after being vaccinated.
